The Game of Bridge
Contract bridge, or simply Bridge, is a trick taking game (like 500) using a standard 52 playing deck ( no joker ) It is played by four players in two competing partnerships, with partners sitting opposite each other around a table. One pair is referred to as North/South and the other pair as East/West. Millions of people play bridge worldwide in clubs, online and with friends at home, making it one of the world's most popular card games. The World Bridge Federation is the governing body for international competitive bridge.
The game consists of many deals (hands), The important parts of each deal are Dealing the Cards, The Auction (called Bidding) to establish a contract, Playing cards to try and make your contract, and finally the Scoring. In club and tournament play the game is usually referred to as duplicate bridge. Here the cards are not re-dealt, but the same deal being played by two or more different sets of players to enable comparative scoring.
Bridge is a stimulating card game and Taupo Bridge Club offers much to its members besides its extremely attractive building. Bridge is a beneficial exercise for the memory, keeps wits sharpened and provides friendship a loyalty that extends beyond the bridge tables. It is not a game for gamblers, but a game of skill with team support that gambling lacks,

Are you a novice or learner bridge player (but have done lessons)?
or
Are you coming back to bridge after a break away?
or
Have you been playing bridge for a while but would like to practise some of the basics of bridge?
Then come along to supervised play at the Taupo Bridge Club. We will play hands of bridge, often with hands set up to practice a particular strategy. But there is no scoring, so no winners or losers. Several more experienced players facilitate the sessions and are available to answer questions and help you during the play.
